Montauk Sewer Project

The Downtown Montauk sewer system won’t be built quickly.  Town engineering consultant H2M estimates that, with an “aggressive” schedule, construction of the sewer system would begin around the end of 2027 or the beginning of 2028.  Full operation of the sewer system is estimated in about the fourth quarter of 2030.  Construction work is proposed to cease during the summer months, for obvious reasons, but there will still be two to three years of highly disruptive construction work in Downtown Montauk and along the Montauk Point State Parkway.

Remember, future extension of the Montauk sewer district to areas other than Downtown Montauk would only occur sometime after 2030 and would entail both additional capital costs and additional time.
